Experian buying ClearScore for £275 million

ClearScore was founded in July 2015 and was the first company to provide totally free credit checks and scores to consumers in the UK.

Credit Karma currently provide credit scores for Transunion and Equifax, but not Experian. Experian has been very opposed to providing credit scores for free, but purchase of ClearScore suggests there might be increased competition in the credit score + marketplace space. Also TIL that Borrowell in Canada has pivoted a bit from consumer lending to provide a similar service! Free credit scores used to be a cheap acquisition strategy, but perhaps not anymore.
