Packed house as Superintendent Marcus Chambers officially announces his candidacy

Last night I attended Superintendent Marcus Chambers' official campaign kickoff as he declared publicly that he was running for Superintendent of Schools.

I don't know what I expected, but I can tell you that I did not expect to see the amount of people that came out to the kickoff. Hundreds and hundreds packed out The Locals Eatery in Niceville. If you tried to eat at Bamboo next door, there probably wasn't any parking there either!

Before the 'Super gave his speech, we heard from 2 former students, a teacher, Chambers' daughter, Sheriff Larry Ashley and finally Congressman Matt Gaetz.

"I've known Marcus Chambers for many years as a leader in the education community. He's been a fantastic principal at Pryor Middle School and Niceville High School and it's easy to see why Gov. DeSantis has so much confidence in him," Gaetz said. "In a short period of time since becoming superintendent he has changed policies and practices regarding student safety ... I've seen the type of reform and change out of Marcus that I'd hoped for and I'm excited about a rally to launch his campaign."

Three main reasons for running:

  • To restore the reputation of the School District among the best in the state.
  • His belief in the students of the district who have shone academically, in extracurricular activities like band and chorus and on the sports field.
  • His belief in the impact on education the district's teachers, staff and administration can make. He said he wants to better the working environment for employees of the district.

We will have the entire speech uploaded later this morning but for now, if you would like to read more about last night, click this link right here.
