The peculiarities of Icelandic naming

Last week I learned that Iceland does not have family names. Surnames are patronymics which are references to fathers’ first names and one can't take your spouse's last name upon marriage....mind blown 🤯

Eg. My name may be Peter Noelson (after my father Noel), my son's surname would be Peterson & my daughter's Petersdaughter. Imagine explaining that to immigration officers!
