WhatsApp told to open office and hire local team before introducing payment service


The company has been keen to roll out payments in India, which is its largest market with 200M MAUs, but the government is (rightly) seeking assurances given how important and influential WhatsApp payments could be. Let's face it, Facebook has a pretty poor record when it comes to managing products remotely so this does make a lot of sense.
