One year after Amazon.com bought Whole Foods, Prime members are now reaping the benefits of that acquisition, in the form of Whole Foods discounts and perks. Amazon offers free two-hour delivery of Whole Foods groceries for Prime subscribers (now available in 14 cities). More than half of Whole Foods stores now offer a 10% discount on sale items to Prime members, plus exclusive weekly discounts. Customers who use Prime’s Visa card also get 5% back on Whole Foods purchases.
More importantly, Amazon is using Whole Foods to draw customers more deeply into its ecosystem. This means giving people more reasons to pay for Prime and buy Amazon devices, which make them spend more on Amazon.
