The Science of Aging and Running | Runner's World

For runners and other athletes 40+, this article offers an interesting look at some scientific studies around aging and running. Of note is a follow-up study that scientists were able to complete on a test group of runners 30 years after the initial study. It's in the section on VO2MAX and worth a read, especially on what happens with the circulatory system and muscle fibers as we age.

The follow-up advice isn't a surprise--and holds true to what I wrote about in Flow State Runner: spend time on flexibility and mobility, do short intense workouts, lift weight occasionally, and I'll add, bring more Yin into your life to balance the high level of Yang that for most of us is there in abundance!
