As millions of students shift quickly toward online education due to the coronavirus pandemic, concerns arise about student data privacy. The types of data that can be collected include personally identifiable information, biometric data, academic progress, behavioral, disciplinary and medical information, students’ geolocation, IP addresses used by students, classroom activities and so on. It goes without saying that potential exploitation and inappropriate use of such data may have serious privacy and safety implications, and calls for proper data protection should be in order.
