The end of the corporate network is coming - TechRepublic

"General Electric recently announced it may 'disconnect' as many as 5,000 sites from its corporate network. Is the idea of a secure, corporate network for employees past its prime?"

The author writes that in discussing the concept with IT leaders, they're initially taken aback but then start to see some absurdities in the corporate network considering Shadow IT, remote workers, and mobile devices. The author also says, "If the assumptions that would allow you to stop maintaining an employee network hold true, the next logical extension is abandoning company-issued computing devices."
