The Trump administration is saving ZTE

The beleaguered Chinese firm will pay a $1.4 billion fine, revamp its management team and agree to "high level security guarantees" and buying US parts, according to President Trump. ZTE was found guilty of violating trade sanctions against North Korea and Iran, and its close ties with the Chinese government have made US security agencies anxious, so this reprieve is hugely controversial even if Trump claims to have built in conditions agreeable to the US economy.
