Thanks to Data, Postmates Knows the True You

Uber knows where you live and work; Amazon tracks your spending habits; Facebook logs your Likes and turns it into advertising. But Postmates understands the real you: your moods, your flings, celebrations, and your munchies. A team of data scientists at Postmates revealed their discoveries, whether it’s scarfing brisket, stockpiling sex toys, or splurging on burritos. Postmates orders surges on holidays (Bud Light requests swelled 378 percent last July 4), election nights, and during heat waves and blizzards. Sex store deliveries explode on Valentine’s Day. Chicken noodle soup and emergen-c surges by almost 300% in January. Customers who order condoms are also likely to order tequila (973%), vodka (342%) and whiskey (271%). Nationwide, the single most-popular delivery request is Chipotle. Postmates have collectively delivered over 10 million burritos. According to the data, our cravings tend to follow weekly patterns. You’re most likely to order chocolate on Wednesday; barbecue hits a high on Saturday.
