There is an excellent video in this article about teaching kids to embrace struggle and to persist through problem-solving challenges. 

At 5:04, the teacher asks a student why he feels good, given that he hasn't solved the problem yet. His reply--which he gave while continuing to focus and write, "because I'm working so hard."  So much goodness captured in that moment, and a lesson for all of us on focusing through any problem-solving struggle.
