Qualcomm ditches NXP deal after failing to win Chinese approval


The $44 billion deal is off after Chinese regulators failed to stamp the deal within a set (and much-rejigged) deadline. The incident seems almost certainly political and the result of an ongoing spat between the US and China, which has focused on trade tariffs but also veered into business deals. Alibaba's acquisition of MoneyGram and Broadcom's pursuit of Qualcomm were ended by US regulators earlier this year.
