School in a coffee shop? A different approach to teaching and learning during the pandemic.

Among the uncertainty of school reopening and the new social distanciation rules to follow, educational institutions are seeking new ways to organize learning spaces effectively for both students and teachers. Teaching in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at the University of Georgia, Stephanie Jones shares her knowledge about unconventional learning environments - like coffee shops, allowing community-based schooling - and the potential they carry for the school of tomorrow.

Going beyond the extremes all online schooling or 100% in-person one, she advocates taking into consideration the following criteria in order to imagine new schooling settings:

- health and well-being of students, their families, teachers and staff in the current context,

- research evidences about social, emotional, physical relationships and the physical environment involved in teaching and learning,

- the need to teach and educate students about the local and global news and phenomenon students live through and the impact on them ;

- responsiveness to any future viral contamination.
