China's gaming regulator set to introduce new approval process

This is potentially huge news. Research firm Niko published notes from a recent summit at which the new regulatory process was revealed. The top line details include:

  • An ethics committee will be established to review game content, developers are encouraged to consider "China’s core social values" while the anti-addiction program will expand from PC games to cover mobile games
  • Games deemed to be copycats, or focused on poker or mahjong card games will not be approved
  • Mini games in WeChat and other apps will now require approval
  • Blood and dead bodies are now banned
