McKinsey Report: The Future of Work

Two troubling predictions dominate this McKinsey report on the future of work:

  • Growth projected to be heavily concentrated in a relatively small number of urban locations, and far slower in less dynamic cities and rural areas. This is exacerbated by a noteworthy lack of migration from the slowing areas to the growth areas. The likely result would be a continued increase in income and opportunity disparity.   • Automation eliminating jobs is likely to be concentrated in the many of the highest-occupational areas. (see diagram below)
