Decentralizing Big Data

Macau-based friend Filipe Farinha aka ktorn gave an amazing talk explaining how privacy can be protected by moving Big Data to customer devices. He wants to protect privacy not for the sake of protecting privacy but because he thinks that everything about our lives should be recorded and the only way to get consumers to be willing to do that is to make sure their privacy is protected.

A great side effect to moving big data and big data analytics from company's cloud servers into consumer's equipment is that it significantly reduces the attractiveness of companies as targets for hackers.

Apple is doing a bit of this right now with HealthKit where all activity data is stored in secure hardware on the iPhone - which it never leaves - but I think there are huge applications for this. I really look forward to seeing where Filipe goes with this!
