4-day school weeks: Educational innovation or detriment?

The years before the pandemic saw a steady increase in school districts adopting a four-day-a-week instructional calendar, and during the pandemic there was an increase in alternative school schedules such as four-day weeks. Should this model be adopted more widely on a permanent basis? Research shows that a four-day work week has minimal benefits in terms of cost savings or increased student attendance but significant detriments in terms of student learning and well-being, suggesting that instructional time is strongly correlated with learning outcomes.
