Google Bans Work on AI Weapons

Responding to protests by more than 4,500 of its employees, Google has taken AI for weapons research off the projects board. Googler-in-chief Sundar Pichai also said the company will not seek to renew the contract with the Pentagon for the controversial Project Maven, which uses AI to interpret military drone surveillance video. Given that other developers will most assuredly line up to fill the void, will Google's abstaining from AI weapon development really move the needle?
