Oppo topped China’s smartphone market in 2016

Oppo, owned by the same firm that runs third-placed Vivo, is on a tear thanks to affordably priced smartphones that sport new tech and are backed up by vast offline advertising campaigns. Oppo (and Vivo) are both being targeted at India and Southeast Asia in 2017, so you'll be sure to hear these names much more in the future. (This is a great background read on Vivo-Oppo.) As for Apple, it saw its first annual shipment decline in China, but that looks like being down to the blowout success of the iPhone 6/6+ (it's first phablet) which was a huge hit in China and tough to follow.
