Epic Games blames Meltdown CPU performance issues for Fortnite downtime


Fortnite is a 100 player free-for-all which follows the battle-royale trend that took up most of 2017, and by its nature it's incredibly CPU intensive. It's also entirely reliant on cloud providers such as Azure and AWS, both of whom patched their servers from Meltdown this week. In the first obvious hits on performance, the game has noticeably deteriorated in the early stages when the most updates are required to players, as the servers struggle to cope.
