Indian journalists and activists were targeted with spyware through cyberattack using WhatsApp

A huge story this week. WhatsApp was the vector for attacks earlier this year which, if successful, grant access to a victim's device. Given India's rocky relationship with Facebook following the past ban on its program, and pushback to its current efforts to introduce WhatsApp Pay, the situation is fairly explosive at this point. The software -- called Pegasus -- was developed by an Israeli firm.
