Plastic fibres found in tap water around the world, study reveals

"For the study, researchers at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health tested 159 samples of tap water collected from more than a dozen countries, including the U.S., Uganda, Ecuador and Indonesia. The researchers found that the U.S. has the highest contamination rate, since 94 percent of the samples taken in the country were tainted with microplastics. The rate of contamination for European countries including the UK, Germany and France was 72 percent. Microplastics can harbor pathogens and are known to absorb toxic chemicals that could later be released into the body, according to research carried out in plants and animals"
