Stephen Hawking on Why Black Holes Are Worthy of Your Consideration

A new collaboration between Harvard University and the Smithsonian will investigate black holes, and even attempt to determine what would happen should a person enter one. Recent data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) seemingly offers proof that the long-theorized objects exist, opening new avenues of research into their properties and behavior. Much of the work was inspired by Dr. Stephen Hawking, whose calculations led to the theory of "Hawking radiation," and he gave a lecture to inaugurate the new program.
