Could public fear keep the autonomous car market in the slow lane?

Fueled by a handful of highly publicized accidents, confidence in autonomous vehicle technology has plummeted 10 percentage points year-over-year. Seventy-three percent of recently surveyed U.S. adults say they would not ride in a fully self-driving car.

It’s worth noting, however, that the aviation industry overcame similar fears by proving a safe operating record and conducting reassuring PR campaigns.
