Bossa Nova Raises $29M to Refine Retail Inventory Robots

San Francisco’s Bossa Nova recently raised $29 million to further develop its inventory robots that roam 50 Walmart stores across the country. The robots provide inventory info in real-time to keep the shelves stocked more efficiently, while identifying products that might be underperforming. The robots loosely resemble Luke Skywalker’s droid R2D2 in size and shape. But that doesn’t stop the occasional mischievous customer from interfering with the Bossa ’bots. Maybe the next model will include an electric zapper to deter impish teens like the one R2 used to shock an Ewok with a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
