Are self-driving cars headed for an AI winter?

Yes, deep learning requires a lot of training data, yes, generalization is a hard problem, and yes, there are lots of edge cases that confound autonomy. We frequently see articles in this vein that throw cold water on the optimistic timelines generated around the advent of self-driving. And we get it, it's a hard problem. Thanks, reporters. Engineers -- please disregard and get back to crushing it. Don't let reporters from The Verge tell you what you can't do. :)
