MP in Commons call for Cumbrian Easter rail shutdown rethink

This story has bubbled up again after BBC Radio Cumbria was one of the outlets [39 mins] to be copied into a letter from the Lakes Line Rail User Group lamenting that the Oxenholme-Windermere line would be closed over half of the long Easter weekend:

This displays an appalling lack of empathy for the nature of the passenger rail market north of Lancaster, which is at least 75% leisure, and at holiday periods nearer to 100% of a much higher volume of traffic.

This week, Lib Dem MP Tim Farron asked rail minister Andrew Jones to change Network Rail's mind... but there wasn't much optimism back:

I will pass the hon. Gentleman’s point through to Network Rail, but these things take a considerable amount of time and it is probably not possible to make changes at the very last minute.
