Facebook bans four armed groups in Myanmar


Facebook dropped the hammer on the groups, which make up the Northern Alliance, and pledged to scrub "all related praise, support and representation." The four are among the many Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) that exist in Myanmar, while some are armed (or include armed factions) many EAOs operate as local government and management. Interestingly, the four groups banned by Facebook are at odds with the national army, although the social network said it acted independently -- one group was responsible for deadly violence in January -- rather than following government orders.
