Google is reportedly planning a censored search service in China

A huge scoop from The Intercept revealing Google is working on plans to launch a censorship-friendly version of its search product in China. Likely on Android first then web and other platforms later. Sources contacted the publication out of concern that Google is setting a terrible precedent in working with (looking to work with?) the Chinese government to stifle free speech and information. Those were among the reasons it pulled the plug on its China search business, so the natural conclusion is that the country's internet space is now lucrative enough for Google to dismiss those principles and return to fight for cash on whatever terms necessary. Very sad.
