Alibaba sets new Singles’ Day record with $31B in sales, but growth is slowing

The sheer numbers themselves have lost meaning and a lot of the sales are lined up days before November 11, but I still think there is some analysis that can be made -- particularly around slowing growth and Alibaba's reluctance to dig into some details, for example transaction volumes overseas. Still, I did enjoy Tim Culpan's Bloomberg column arguing that the whole thing is "meaningless" -- I think he's right to think that there will be no more actual numbers next year.
