Honda Research's social robot Haru is loaded with personality

As the social robot space seems to have lost steam lately, Honda Research has rolled out a hyper-expressive social robot prototype called Haru. Haru’s designers placed a premium on the bot’s unique aesthetics, including two animated eyes that change shape to convey moods such as anger, shyness, and curiosity. Haru doesn’t have arms nor legs, but it does have colors around the screen’s frame that change to enhance Haru’s expressions.

If done right, this should make Haru extremely difficult to turn off.
