Foxconn to shift some Apple production to Vietnam to minimise China risk

Apple’s largest manufacturing partner, Foxconn Technology, is planning to move some iPad and MacBook production out of China to Vietnam, Reuters reported.

The news agency said the move comes at Apple’s behest as it tries to diversify its supply chain away from China amid its trade war with the U.S. Foxconn plans to start MacBook and iPad production at a Vietnamese factory in the first half of next year, it added.

Apple executives have spent years studying the feasibility of moving some production to Vietnam. However, the country still lacks China’s massive labor pool, delivery infrastructure and deep supply chain of subcontractors and component makers.
