Our Esquina: Tony Perez helped open doors for Afro Latinos in Major League Baseball

Tony Perez is a former professional baseball player, coach and manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a first baseman and third baseman from 1964 through 1986, most notably as a member of the Cincinnati Reds dynasty that won 4 National League pennants and 2 World Series championships. Afro-Latino players like Tony Perez 0pened the door for Black men, who are among the biggest stars in baseball today. Who would have thought in 1960 that by 2022 three Afro Latinos would be elected to join Perez, Clemente and Ted Williams in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown?
