New report provides reality check on virtual schools

The National Education Policy Center at the University of Colorado has been tracking the growth of virtual schools since 2013. Virtual schools also tend to have disproportionately low numbers of minority and low-income students. Also, virtual schools operated by for-profit organizations exhibit considerably lower performance than those operated by non-profits.
