Escape From the Feature Roadmap to Outcome-driven Development

This is an especially insightful article from Alice Newton Rex.

Let's say you go for the feature-based roadmap, and you build exactly the feature you said you would build. At the end of the year if the feature fails and nobody is using the feature, and all the metrics are heading in the wrong direction. Then what was the point in building that feature at all?

Yes, you completed your feature-roadmap, but the product is failing.

Instead of you focused on a particular outcome, then the feature itself doesn't matter. You are then free to experiment with multiple features or approaches, as long as you achieve the outcome then your product is succeeding.
